Situated 8 km / 5 miles north-east of the Antiguan capital of St. Johns, Antigua VC Bird International Airport (ANU) is the only airport located on the island of Antigua. Located to the south-east of Barnes Hill, Boons Bay and Cedar Grove, VC Bird Airport operates as the main gateway to Barbuda and is an important hub for LIAT airlines (Leeward Islands Air Transport).
This busy airport houses both domestic and international carriers in a single terminal and serves passengers to destinations in North America and Europe, with the greatest influx of flights coming in from the US. Driving from the airport to St. Johns' city centre takes only ten minutes and can be accomplished via the Old Parham Road or the Antigua Sugar Factory Road. Most prominent hotels can arrange shuttle buses to transport clients from the airport to their hotel, and taxis operate on fixed fares to many local destinations. In some cases, helicopters can be chartered in order to explore neighbouring islands in the Caribbean.

Built as a military base during the Second World War conveniently close to St. Johns, Antigua's VC Bird Airport was originally known as Coolidge International Airport and has been managed by the local government since the end of the 1940s. In 1985, the airport changed its name, instead being named after Antigua and Barbuda's original prime minister, Vere Cornwall Bird.
Facilities at Antigua VC Bird include ATMs, a bureau de change, newsagents, souvenir shops, a post office and a duty-free outlet, as well as a restaurant and a bar. Several car hire firms are on-site in the Arrivals Hall, with Avis, Carter and Thrifty represented, amongst many other companies. Both short-term and long-term parking options are available.
